Focus: Performer independence, balance,
pathways, all direction changes, isolation of upper body from lower body,
foot placements, upper/lower body orientation, developing and maintaining
intensity
There are 5 exercises in Circle Drill. Each
exercise builds on the previously recommended exercises, and on previous
circle drill exercises. Exercise 5 is the most complex and the most
taxing on the performer.
To Begin
Have your hornline stand in a circle at 2-step intervals
around a centerpoint, usually marked with an orange cone. Ensure
that the circle is round by selecting FOUR guide-point performers...two
performers standing on the horizontal axis, and two performers standing
on the vertical axis (yardline). All guidepoints should be
equidistant from the center point. Everyone else should round the
shape between these guide points. This will be the INSIDE
circumference.
Setup
Have all performers back 8 steps (8-to-5) straight away
from the center point (straight path) until the circle intervals are
approximately 2.5-steps between each performer. Check and adjust
the circle by adjusting guidepoints. This will be the OUTSIDE
circle.
